After a big celebration for his birthday last year, my dad isn’t too fussed about spending his birthday in style again this year. Last year was his 60th, a major milestone- this year, he’s turning 61, which isn’t the cause for as big a party. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to treat him to something special. What sort of daughter would I be if I didn’t treat him on his special day?
The only problem is, I’m terrible with choosing presents. I know he said he wasn’t massively bothered about what gift I chose him, but considering it is the thought that counts, I’d like to be able to choose something that shows how thoughtful I am! I’ve never really been good at getting gifts for my dad, always giving my mum some money so she could choose something for him and say it is from me. This year, I was going to put an end to that trend and fully dedicated myself to searching extensively online for the perfect present.
A short while later I found The Big Shoot website. I have no idea if my dad has ever held a gun before, let alone go shooting, but this was an exciting experience tailor made for any age. It would certainly put more of a spring in his step than playing golf ever would! I couldn’t resist the opportunity to treat him to a brand new activity. He’s always complaining that there isn’t anything exciting him to do now that he’s reached his ripe old age. I couldn’t wait to prove him wrong.
I found out that there were a couple of Big Shoot ranges just a short distance from our house. After I found the nearest one was available, I booked a 50 clay shoot for both of us- I wanted to see the look on his face when he hit the targets. Not only that, but I wanted an excuse for some quality father/daughter time and this would be the perfect place to get that. How could we possibly not have a great time when smashing all the clays to pieces? It certainly beats another day in the office.
When his big day arrived, he was completely over the moon to receive this clay shooting experience as a birthday gift. He said he now wanted to dedicate his life to trying out new things and this was a great place to start. Neither of us could wait until the day we actually got to the shooting range; it was only a few days away, but time felt like it was dragging because we couldn’t wait! We felt like kids on Christmas Eve.
When we got to the site itself, the staff were incredibly friendly. As soon as they found out it was our first time, they gave us plenty of training in how to use the guns and how to hit the targets. They made it incredibly easy and we were smashing tons of clays in no time! I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as my dad, but I loved every second of it. I don’t think I’ve ever felt an adrenaline rush quite like hitting a clay for the first time.
The Big Shoot gave my dad a cracking birthday present and helped make me become the best daughter in the world! I’ll definitely be booking with them again, as I can’t get enough of the clay smashing fun.
